Documents Required for a Personal Loan and How Long It Actually Takes
If you're applying for a personal loan, two things matter most: what documents you need, and how long it'll take to get the money.
How long does it take?
A traditional, branch-based loan can take 3–10 working days. A fully digital application is much faster — often just minutes to 1–2 days for approval, and 1–3 days after that for the money to reach your account.
The biggest factor isn't the lender — it's whether your documents are complete and consistent (same name and address everywhere) the first time you submit.
Documents you'll need
If you're salaried:
- PAN card + one ID proof (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID, or driving licence)
- Address proof (Aadhaar, utility bill, rent agreement, or passport)
- Last 2–3 months' salary slips
- Last 3–6 months' bank statements
- A recent photograph
If you're self-employed:
- PAN card + ID and address proof (same as above)
- Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the last 2–3 years
- Last 6–12 months' bank statements
- Business proof (GST registration or similar), if requested
- A recent photograph
Why applications get delayed
- Name mismatch across PAN, Aadhaar, and bank account
- Blurry or cropped document scans
- Outdated address proof
- Incomplete bank statements
Checking these before you submit is the easiest way to avoid delays.
